At Hartwell Counselling Ltd, action-oriented approaches are the foundation of our multi-theory integration. Action oriented approaches are defined as theories that utilize direct interventions and action for symptom reduction. Theories within this category are behavioral, cognitive, strategic, and solution-focused in nature. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is one of the many approaches to therapy that is under the action oriented approach. CBT is an evidence based form of talk therapy and has been proven to be the most effective treatment for depression, insomnia, panic disorder, posttraumatic stress disorders, eating disorders, obsessive compulsive disorder and anxiety.
Cognitive behavior therapy is short-term, goal-oriented and focused on helping clients deal with a specific problem. It helps clients understand the thoughts and feelings that influence their behavior. During the course of treatment, clients learn to identify and change destructive or disturbing thoughts patterns that have a negative influence on behavior and emotions. The underlying concept of CBT is that our thoughts and feelings play an important role in our behavior.
