CBT Skills Group for Adults

The CBT Skills Group is a 5-week online psycho-educational class for adults.

What is the CBT skills group?

The Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Skills Group is a 5-week online psycho-educational class for adults aged 18 and older. This is an online group with 6-8 participants. The group is designed to teach you practical tools to recognize, understand, and manage patterns of feeling, thinking, and behaving to improve your mental health. The CBT Skills Training Groups use CBT as a basis to teach you various skills. You will learn about how your emotions work and how these are connected to your thoughts and behaviors. Understanding these connections will help you work more effectively with yourself - with your mind/brain and your body sensations - especially when you are having problems associated with depression and anxiety.

What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)?

It is a structured approach to psychotherapy designed to alleviate an individual’s emotional and behavioral problems and help the person learn more effective ways of dealing with thoughts and beliefs that contribute to their suffering. CBT is based on how we think (what we expect, assume, and believe) and influences how we feel, behave and react to our environment.

What will I learn in the CBT skills group?

You will learn about how the mind works,

the nature of thoughts,

the function of emotions, and the interconnection of thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.

You will practice various skills that help you remain in the present moment.

You will be introduced to practices that encourage self-compassion and self-acceptance.

In the CBT Skills program, we look at how the mind works, bringing mindful awareness to our patterns of feeling, thinking, and behaving. In doing so, we become more aware of our choices. We also practice skills that help us cope with intense emotions, cultivate more helpful thinking, and make choices that move us toward what is truly important to us.

What is the group format?

The CBT Skills Group is a closed group comprising 6-8 participants 18 years or older. It runs for 5 weeks online; each session will be 1.5 hours and is facilitated by Ifeatu Nwankwo, a certified cognitive-behavioral therapist. Mrs. Nwankwo holds a master’s degree in clinical mental health. Except for the first session, which is a general orientation to the course, the first half of the session is dedicated to a brief check-in and homework review, while the rest is focused on teaching a new set of skills.

What does the group cost?

The total cost for the Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Skills group is $600, which includes the 5 sessions that are 1.5-hour in length, and the group materials will be yours to keep.

The fee for this group may be covered in whole or part by your private health insurance/employee benefits plan. Please note that obtaining reimbursement from an insurance company is the responsibility of each client. You are encouraged to contact your insurance provider for details of your coverage to verify that group therapy services will be covered by your policy and any conditions of this coverage.

This closed group will not accept new registrants after the start date. We require a 150-dollar deposit to hold your spot in the group, and this is refundable, minus $50 for administrative fees, up to 1 week before the start of the group. The remaining fees may be paid in full at the beginning of the group.

What if I need to miss a group?

Because so much information is covered in each group session, regular and consistent attendance is strongly recommended. You may still participate in the CBT Skills Group even if you know you will be absent for one or more sessions. Please note that the full fee for the group will still apply in such cases.
