Frequently Asked Questions

Many people seek therapy when they feel overwhelmed, burned out, emotionally stuck, or disconnected, even if they appear “high-functioning” in daily life. You may benefit from therapy if stress feels constant, emotions feel hard to manage, relationships feel strained, or past experiences continue to impact your present. Therapy is not only for crisis situations — it is also a supportive space to process long-term stress, trauma, and emotional exhaustion in a sustainable way.

Hartwell Counselling therapy Group offers trauma-informed therapy using an integrative approach that includes somatic therapy, EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). Sessions are tailored to your needs and focus on nervous system regulation, emotional processing, and building long-term resilience. This approach is especially helpful for clients navigating trauma, burnout, anxiety, and chronic stress.
-
Somatic therapy is a body-based approach to trauma therapy that focuses on how stress and trauma are held in the nervous system, not just in thoughts or memories. Many people experiencing burnout or trauma notice physical symptoms such as tension, fatigue, or emotional shutdown. Somatic therapy helps you reconnect with your body, regulate stress responses, and process emotions in a way that feels safer and more grounded than talk therapy alone.

Your first therapy session is a space to slow down, ask questions, and begin building a sense of safety and connection. We will discuss what brings you to therapy, your goals, and what support might feel most helpful right now. There is no pressure to share everything at once. Sessions are paced intentionally, especially for clients with trauma histories or chronic stress.
-
The length of therapy varies depending on your goals, needs, and life circumstances. Some clients benefit from short-term support, while others choose longer-term therapy for deeper healing. Progress often shows up as increased emotional awareness, improved regulation, clearer boundaries, and a greater sense of stability. Therapy is collaborative, and we regularly check in to ensure the work feels supportive and meaningful.
