Serving adults in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, British Columbia and Ontario

You Are Functioning—but Something Still Feels Stuck

You may be successful, dependable and accustomed to holding everything together. On the outside, you continue working, caring for others and meeting your responsibilities. Internally, however, you may feel anxious, emotionally exhausted, disconnected or unable to fully relax.

You may understand where your patterns come from but still struggle to change how your mind and body respond.

Pivot Point may help when you are experiencing:

  • Childhood or complex trauma

  • Burnout and chronic stress

  • Anxiety, overthinking or emotional overwhelm

  • Perfectionism and people-pleasing

  • Shame, guilt or low self-worth

  • Difficulty setting boundaries

  • Racial, workplace or relationship trauma

  • Long-standing patterns that talk therapy has not fully shifted

These responses do not mean that you are broken. They may reflect experiences your nervous system has not yet fully processed.

What Is Pivot Point?

Pivot Point is a structured, one-to-one online trauma therapy program for adults who recognize that past experiences continue to affect their emotions, relationships, work, self-worth and ability to feel safe in the present.

The program brings together important components of EMDR therapy, including:

  • Trauma-informed assessment and personal history

  • Trauma, memory and trigger mapping

  • Nervous-system regulation and grounding

  • Resource development and stabilization

  • EMDR preparation and treatment planning

  • Carefully paced trauma processing when appropriate

  • Positive-belief development and future-focused integration

This is not a self-directed course or group program. Every session is individualized to your history, current needs and treatment goals.

What’s Included?

  • Your Six-Week Journey

    Weeks 1–2: Understand and Prepare

We begin by identifying the memories, beliefs, body responses and present-day triggers connected to your concerns. You will also develop personalized grounding, regulation, containment and internal-resource strategies.

Weeks 3–4: Address the Core Pattern

When clinically appropriate, we begin working with a carefully selected memory or trauma pattern using EMDR, Flash Technique or another trauma-focused approach. The work is paced according to your readiness and ability to remain connected to the present.

Weeks 5–6: Shift Present Triggers and Move Forward

We explore how past experiences continue to affect current relationships, work, boundaries and emotional responses. The program concludes with future-focused practice, progress review and a personalized plan for continued healing.

What Can Change?

The goal is not to erase your history or rush through every painful experience. It is to help the past have less control over how you experience the present.

Depending on your needs and readiness, Pivot Point may help you:

  • Understand your triggers and repeating patterns

  • Reduce the emotional intensity connected to selected memories

  • Feel more grounded during difficult situations

  • Decrease shame, guilt and self-blame

  • Strengthen boundaries and self-trust

  • Respond with greater choice rather than automatic survival reactions

  • Develop a clear plan for continued trauma and EMDR therapy

Every person responds differently, and no specific result can be guaranteed

Is Pivot Point the First Step Before EMDR?

For most new clients seeking EMDR at Hartwell Counselling Therapy Group, Pivot Point is the recommended starting point.

EMDR involves more than bilateral stimulation or eye movements. Effective EMDR treatment includes assessment, preparation, stabilization, target development, trauma processing, integration and reevaluation.

Readiness for deeper EMDR reprocessing is assessed collaboratively throughout Pivot Point. Some clients may begin processing during the program, while others may benefit from additional stabilization or individual counselling before continuing.

After Pivot Point, recommendations may include EMDR continuation sessions, individual trauma counselling, Flash Technique or a period of integration

Ready to See If Pivot Point Is Right for You?

You don’t have to feel 100% ready. Most people who start this work feel nervous, uncertain or scared to hope things could be different. You just need to be willing to take the next small step.

Book a brief consultation and we’ll explore:

  • What you’re struggling with right now

  • Whether Pivot Point is a good fit for you

  • Other options if a different pace or approach would serve you better
